Diagnostic Research
Diagnostic research determines the frequency with which a variable occurs or its relationship with another variable. It is research to understand why and to what extent a phenomenon is occurring and the reasons for it to occur.
Deductive Research
This research is also termed as a top-down approach or general-to-specific approach. This type of research generally starts with the setting up a hypothesis and is tested with the help of the available information. Then a specific conclusion is drawn from it.
Inductive Research
This research is also called a bottom-up approach or specific-to-general approach. Certain new theories are developed in this research type, and new ideas are formed.
Structured Research
Everything in structured research is already pre-planned and predetermined in advance. The objectives, design, sample, and questions are all structured. This type of research is generally used in quantitative research.
Unstructured Research
Here, there is no predetermined structure to be followed in the process, which makes this a very flexible approach. It is appropriate to explore the nature of the problem here. It is used in a qualitative type of research problem.
Qualitative Research
Qualitative research is research that tells why a particular phenomenon takes place. In this type of research, the sample size is smaller. This research is descriptive and tells the nature of the phenomenon. This research is inductive, which means it goes from Specific to general.
Quantitative Research
Quantitative research is deductive and deals with larger sample sizes. It deals with numbers and depicts the phenomenon in numbers itself. It gives the answer to how many or how much.
Conceptual Research
Conceptual research is based on the theoretical approach and is related to some abstract ideas or theories. Thinkers and philosophers use it to develop new concepts or for reinterpretation.
Empirical Research
Empirical means based on experience, so empirical research meaning is based on an experimental approach used by the researcher to formulate a working hypothesis.
Innovative Research
Innovative research deals with new ideas, technology, or techniques to solve a new problem.
Incremental Research
Incremental research is intended to discover something that is an improvement or incremental of something that already exists. For, e.g., research done by a company to improve a product.
Ex-Post Facto Research
This is a type of research that takes place after the phenomenon has occurred without any interference from the researcher's side.
